Description of Therapy Modalities

  • Therapeutic & Swedish-Esalen Massage  is muscle manipulation using a combination of techniques and bodywork modalities.  Some techniques include long, flowing strokes as well as petrissage, cupping, cross-fiber friction to name a few.

  • Deep Tissue Massage  is muscle manipulation using a combination of slower, deeper muscular techniques such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy.  Works well on acute or chronic pain, upper and lower back pain, shoulder pain and neck pain.

  • Trigger Point Therapy focuses on muscular pain and referral pain caused by active and latent trigger points.  This therapy works best for pain, stiffness and limited range of motion.  Trigger points are very common and may be the most common cause of lost work time.

  • Myofascial Release provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The theory of Myofascial Release requires an understanding of the fascial system (or connective tissue). The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater.  In the normal healthy state, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration. It has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. When we experience physical trauma, scarring, or inflammation, however, the fascia loses its pliability. It becomes tight, restricted and a source of tension to the rest of the body. Trauma, such as a fall, whiplash, surgery or just habitual poor posture over time and repetitive stress injuries has a cumulative effects.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy manipulates the soft tissue of the body (muscles, tendons and connective tissue) to balance the central nervous system. In a healthy individual, nerves transmit impulses (which are responsible for every movement, function and thought) to the body very slowly. Injury, trauma, postural distortion or stress cause nerves to speed up their transmission, inhibiting equilibrium and making the body vulnerable to pain and dysfunction.

  • CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle therapy that induces deep relaxation by stabilizing the cerebral spinal fluid.  Relieves headaches, neck and back pain, and muscle pain.

  • Pregnancy/Pre-Natla Massage has the same benefits as regular massage with special emphasis on lower and upper back pain and edema. Depending on the pregnancy, the position and posturing is modified.  High risk pregnancy massage must be approved by one's health care professional.
